The competition for talent, investments, and economic growth is global.
Governments and organizations often try to attract talent and investment by offering financial incentives, infrastructure and facilities, policies and programs, or development plans.
And that’s all great, but the most successful understand something more fundamental:
People and businesses make decisions about where to live, work, operate, and invest based on where they can see a positive future unfolding.
That means that governments and organizations that demonstrate genuine care for their people and their communities have a lasting competitive advantage.
They offer more than just incentives. They foster a culture of authentic care for the future well-being of the entire community.
Watch this clip of Ron’s interview with Oscar Motomura, founder and CEO of Amana-Key, to discover how leading governments create sustainable advantages through service culture.

Countries now literally are competing with each other for talent, for quality of life, for investments, for tourism, for students, for employers. And so when a country wants to move up in terms of its economic development, its social development, its political development, then it needs to create a more and more robust and successful service culture in the entire city or country or region.
And the government has a critical role to play in that, because if they stand back and go, well, everything should evolve. And our job here is to regulate and control and enforce, that sets a certain tone, which is very different than if you’ve got a country, for example, like Singapore, that I’ve chosen to make home or other places around the world where the government is saying, hold on, we need to be the ones that are improving service consistently so that it becomes easier for people to move here, more effective for them to work here, more enjoyable for them to visit here or live here, or start a business here, or send their children to study here.
And so there is no more important area to develop than a government service that is committed to building an ecosystem within itself. All the different government agencies, but also with the population. That contributes to the wellbeing of everyone. And remember, all of the civil servants and public servants, they’re also members of the same community. They are your neighbors. And so you want to be working together that closely.
